Guatemala
Guatemala is absolutely magical.
Fiery volcanoes stand tall, surrounded by a land filled with colourful colonial cities, lakes that could inspire artists, jungles, beaches, and an intricate history as exemplified by the many ruins scattered throughout the country. Occasionally a moment lost in time, Guatemala has an inescapable charm.
Misty mornings are disturbed by erupting volcanoes while creatively crafted chicken buses fly by. The sights and sounds of sprawling colourful markets entice the senses. The traditions of the Mayan people prevail, as they stand golden-toothed and wrapped in the colourful textiles of history.
Traveling through Guatemala is a Central American treat. The well established backpackers trail allows for the continuous growth of the Guatemalan tourism industry. Expanding tourism means that there is a wide variety of topographies available to be explored. I find this unique in in Central American travel. It feels that in Guatemala all areas are available for tourists, from the jungles in the north, to the lakes in the west, to coastal beaches and central cities. Guatemala is a backpackers paradise in Central America.
Here you can climb up and around ancient ruins, covered in dense Guatemalan jungle, while listening to the sounds of monkeys playing in the background. Exotic fruits and vegetables fill your plate while fresh grown coffee will satisfy your soul. The surrounding volcanoes will have you dreaming of adventure, hikes, and of course summit sunrises, while misty mornings on the lake will have you breathing with serenity. While they may have harsher experiences imposed upon them, the people of Guatemala will also warm your heart with their endearing and welcoming spirit. Guatemala is magical, and I am so excited for you to have your adventure there.
